Perhaps taken in Oakland or the Inverness area of Marin County, California according to background on this image supplied by the grandson of the photographer when purchased for this archive, this is a fine exhibition print of Sigismund Blumann’s pictorialist work in which he has titled the composition in gold lettering and triple-mounted the image onto fine colored art paper supports. Photographic historian Christian A. Peterson has commented on the photographer’s interest in producing smaller prints: “he even objected to enlargements, preferring the classic, small and intimate contact print.”

Provenance: Sigismund Blumann’s grandson.
