The following poem by Alice Elliot appears full-page opposite this photograph by Nichol Elliot, Autumn, Lake Ontario:

November Sundown on the Lake.

WHERE sky and water meet, there magic waits!
They meet this hour ⎯and in communion strong
Those grave and gracious harmonies prolong
That oft November, cloudy eved, creates
When glimmering grey with silver ripple mates,
While quiet broods, as if no storms in throng
Could lash against the stones their surges long,
Such depth of pensive calm predominates.

Clam, wise in pow’r ⎯though tempest rise apace,
Calm, warm with life ⎯though evening closes chill,
Great calm we crave ⎯beyond earth’s battle-roar,
Great calm ⎯divine as Love’s diviner grace ⎯
That holds within infinitude of Will
The uttermost Deeps, the ripple on the shore.
