Two figures rest against a fence at foreground left as they gaze over the River Esk in this brooding landscape titled “Feierabend”, or German for the end of the work day.

Overlooking the North Sea, this view from the vantage point of the East Cliff was taken in the seaside town of Whitby in Yorkshire and shows the Lower Harbor area.

The Reverend F.C. Lambert’s Linked Ring pseudonym was “Prelate”: he was elected in January of 1896.  A well published author, Lambert early in his career wrote profiles on the photographers Lydell Sawyer and B. Gay Wilkinson in the important publication Sun Artists. He authored the book Photography for Novices in 1909.
