This portfolio of large-plate, hand-pulled heliogravures (photogravures), was the personal copy of Photo-Club de Paris founder member Constant Puyo.  It is example  #42 of 470 deluxe copies printed on French hand-made white Marais paper.  An additional 30 copies were printed on Imperial Japan paper.   The 64 individual photographs and one watercolor drawing (aquarelle) represented in this portfolio were printed by the French lithography firm of Lemercier & Cie.  Monsieur Fillon made 50 of the copper plates for the plate impressions- the other six were done by Blechinger, Richard Paulussen of Vienna, Dujardin, and James Craig Annan of Scotland.  Gallery host Georges Petit is credited for the watercolor plate by artist Guillaume Dubufe that opens the portfolio as planche #1. The image depicts a maiden in the clouds using a large hand-mirror to look at herself while birds fly by at lower right. The watercolor is signed G. Dubufe 1893 at bottom center.

The Georges Petit Gallery, a famous Paris art  gallery where the works of Rodin, Monet , Whistler and other important artists were shown, hosted this first exposition of art photography put on by the Photo Club de Paris in 1894.

Colophon states: “This album has been created as a souvenir of the first exposition of art photography organized by the Photo-Club de Paris in January of 1894.”
