This is a fine studio portrait of the English poet and writer John Masefield, (1878-1967) Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom from 1930 until 1967.

 

Print details recto: signed in graphite by the artist along lower margin: © Eugene Hutchinson 1919 Chicago; silver-mirroring to print margins; overall staining believed to be result of silver-sulfide migration.

 

Print details verso: glue and paper remnants along upper and lower margins indicating removal from a primary mount.

 

Other Collections: presumably the same portrait of John Masefield as held in the Frances Clarke Sayers collection of photographs by Eugene Hutchinson, circa 1900-1930 at the University of California, Los Angeles.
