Ben J. Boyd was an active member of the Wilkes-Barre Camera Club in Pennsylvania. His photographs were often reproduced in major photographic journals of his day, and they indicate he was active from as early as 1913 to as late as 1918.

A 1915 notice in one of these journals lists Boyd as being the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Wilkes-Barre Camera Club. The active club hosted an annual convention and print competition. (1.)
