Title translation: Night Walk

The Brothers Hofmeister photographed an old woman hunched over supported by a cane in 1899.  The photograph was transformed via the gum bichromate process into a night scene in 1900:

“The brothers Theodor and Oskar Hofmeister frequently used brushes to retouch their photographs.  The three prints of their famous Old Woman (figs. 28-30) reveal the successive stages of the process.” 1.

Note: Hofmeister Brothers engraved monogram in lower left corner of plate dated 1899.
