Amateur photographer Dr. Konrad Biesalski, 1868-1930, was an important German orthopedic physician who believed in holistic treatment methods. Teaming up with a Dr. Krüger of Berlin, they worked at perfecting photographs using a single light source such as a blacksmith shop’s open hearth to create dramatically lighted, low key photographs.
