This unusual tissue guard printed with interlocking snowflakes is a delightful compliment to the photograph behind it: Elbstrand im Schnee, a winter scene taken on Hamburg’s Elbstrand in 1897. This very delicate tissue guard may be imprinted on Japan or a similar hand-made paper. The guard itself extends beyond the support plate mark.
