The image is of a violin repairman, working on a violin.  It is one of several images of the same subject produced by Mr. Blumann, all of which seem to have the same title. (1.)

 

Two variant photographs showing the same violin maker in his shop were used by Blumann to illustrate his article: Bendaying the Photographic Print published in the January, 1929 issue of Camera Craft magazine.
