The subject is stated on the print verso to be Miss K Burke. Sisters Emme Gerhard (1872-1946) and Mayme Gerhard (1876-1955) first opened their St. Louis studio beginning in 1903. An excellent overview of these pioneering woman photographers has been prepared by Beverly Brannan, Curator of Photography in the Prints & Photographs Division at the Library of Congress.
