A stand of young pine trees in this landscape view was photographed by Wheeler in the Pacific Grove area of California, located between Point Pinos and Monterey.

In  her 1922 St. Paul exhibition Atmospheric Studies, Young Pines was listed in exhibition brochure as entry # 23 under sub-heading Pacific Grove.
