Title: Lost Profile

Previously in this space I posted a photograph of the French novelist Colette in order to show the striking effect mounting materials have on the presentation of a particular photograph. This example, “Lost Profile”, by the French photographer Charles Sollet, follows in that tradition-one we feel is critical in preserving artistic intent. This hand-pulled “taille-douce” (screen) photogravure was published in the second series edition of the publication L’Épreuve Photographique, (1904-05), with great care made by its Parisian publisher to match multiple-colored art paper supports with the photographer’s original.
