Born in Ohio, Herman S. Hoyt, (1868-1961) a photographer who professionally went by H.S. Hoyt, lived in San Francisco, California as early as 1905 and was active there in the California Camera Club.

Vale Cemetery is the largest cemetery in Schenectady, New York. It opened on 21 October 1857 when the Rev. Julius Seely dedicated what was then termed “the Vale”. It has tripled its size since opening and today it holds the remains of some of the most notable persons in Upstate New York. (1.)
Hoyt died on September 21, 1961 and is buried at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Colma, CA.
