This is a very good example of an intact folder cover for the fifth collected issue of Die Kunst in Der Photographie, 1903. (Lieferung 5) The folder cover- with marginal fading- still retains its original light green color. The title of the journal is printed in red ink, and features artwork originally etched in 1896 by Swiss artist Hermann Hirzel. (1864-1939)
Believed to be living in Berlin at the time he created this work, Hirzel’s cover design showing a Faun playing his flute among a landscape of trees and the rising Sun was used in issues from 1897-1903.
The other printed details included in the folder cover below the artwork: HERAUSGEGEBEN UND GELEITET von FRANZ GOERKE | Published and Edited by Franz Goerke; Verlagsbuchhandlung von Wilhelm Knapp in Halle a. S. | Wilhelm Knapp’s publishing house in Halle a. S.
