Emerson’s log book of the wherry “Maid of the Mist” notes the presence of “sheep and cattle on marshes” noted as part of his entry for October 8, 1890, when the boat was moored at Buckenham Ferry.
There well may be some sheep mixed in with the livestock in this view, but most appear to be cattle. They graze on marshland on a foggy morning, with some reflected in the surface of the water, perhaps a tributary of the River Yare.
