Editorial comment for this plate:

BY THE LAKE.

Our picture this week is especially appropriate for this season of the year. Most amateur photographers, and as many professionals as can be, are now among the mountains or at the seaside with their cameras, making just such pictures as the one which we have the pleasure of presenting to our readers in this number of the magazine.

The negative was made by Mr. H. B. Vanderveer, an amateur of Brooklyn, on a Forbes plate, with a Hermagis lens. The scene is at Lake Mahopac, N. Y., on Blackberry Island, (1.) and is certainly an attractive out-of-door picture.

  1. Today, this island is known as Canopus Island, the largest island within Lake Mahopac.

Henry B. Vanderveer: 1866-1938

Vanderveer was an amateur photographer from Brooklyn, New York.
