Introduction: Die Kunst in der Photographie: 1906 

This group set features 69 of 70 plates contained within the 4 quarterly issues (lieferung-installment) published for the 1906 yearly volume of Die Kunst in der Photographie. This includes 20 hand-pulled photogravures and an additional 49 mounted autotype plates. (halftones) Each issue contained 5 photogravures and either 12 or 13 autotypes. The Contents page-the first compiled letterpress page- states the following overview for the work published in 1906:

This work is dedicated to international art photography.

Franz Goerke, publisher of Die Kunst in der Photographie, then provides his year-end message and analysis. For this tenth year (Zehnter Jahrgang), his comments are particularly brief compared to previous years:  (translated from the German)

WITH THIS VOLUME, THE “ART IN PHOTOGRAPHY” LOOKS BACK ON TEN YEARS OF EXISTENCE.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, ON THIS OCCASION, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THOSE WHO HAVE HELPED ME TO THIS SUCCESS WITH THEIR FAITHFUL AND UNSELFISH COOPERATION.

MAY THIS WORK REMAIN FAR FROM WHAT IT INTENDED TO BE FROM THE BEGINNING – AN ASSOCIATION OF ALL SERIOUSLY WORKING FRIENDS OF OUR FINE ART – AN ASSOCIATION OF ALL DIRECTIONS OF PHOTOGRAPHY, WHICH ULTIMATELY ALL STRIVE TOWARDS THE SAME GOAL OF RAISING PHOTOGRAPHY TO AN ART – MAY IT CONTINUE TO HAVE AN INSTRUCTIVE AND ENJOYING EFFECT AS A DOCUMENT OF OUR ACHIEVEMENTS AND SUCCESSES.
