Commenting in the accompanying catalogue letterpress, Alfred Horsley Hinton writes of this work by West London Photographic Society member George Lamley:
Not the least noticeable feature in Mr. G. Lamley’s little vertical picture, A Sluggish River choked with Sedge and Flag, is the suggestion of largeness which even a plate of such small dimensions gives. The mere size of a picture is of no importance if only we are not made to feel that it is small.
