Our heliogravure. (translated)

This time we present another helio, after a negative of Mr. J. A. Bakhuis in Amersfoort, well-known to our readers from way back: “Evening sun in the forest.” This plate needs no further description. The light concentrates beautifully on the lady’s figure, amidst the dark tree trunks. It stands there loose and free, without any appearance of posing. The entire technical execution is, as we are used to from Mr. Bakhuis, unimprovable. We therefore know in advance that this helio will be generally appreciated and will make people long for more from this same amateur.

Johan A. Bakhuis: 1857-1934   (Olst | Amersfoort)

Amateur photographer Johan A. Bakhuis exhibited as early as 1888 in Amsterdam. He is listed in 1891 in the Photographic News of London when he won the bronze medal for amateurs taking part in the Amsterdam International Photographic Exhibition. He  was said to “possess considerable merit, as also does the collective exhibit of the Haarlem Amateur Photo Club.” –(October 9, 1891)
