Brinckmann (1843-1915) founded the Museum of Arts and Crafts (Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe) in Hamburg in 1877.  The museum represents itself as:

“one of Europe’s leading museums of cultural history, art, craft, design and photography. Its collections range from ancient times to the present day and include both the European and the Islamic and Far Eastern culture.”  1.
