Charles Rann Kennedy

Dating to as early as 1914, this portrait of the English-American playwright Charles Rann Kennedy (1871-1950)  appeared as a full-page halftone in the April, 1914 issue of Wilson’s Photographic Magazine, (p. 173)  part of a portfolio of Boughton’s work titled Sixteen Prints by Alice Boughton New York, N.Y.

 

Photographer Alice Boughton worked closely with Kennedy from the beginning of the 20th Century, providing him with photographs for many of his published works which had been turned into plays. These included: The Servant in the House, (1908) The WinterFeast, (frontis only-1908) The Terrible Meek, (1912) The Idol-Breaker, (1914) and The Rib of Man. (1917)  He was married to stage actress Edith Wynne Matthison , who Boughton photographed and can be seen in the related work area at bottom of this page.
