Dorothy & her Mother

Dorothy & her Mother

In this contemplative home portrait, Mary Carruthers Tucker (1877-1940) gently holds daughter Dorothy, (1899-1986) not even one years old, on her lap. The photograph must have been a favorite of the young Tucker family: an original cloth and metal hanger is still in place on the verso of the heavy card mount, indicating at one point it may have been hung on a wall.

Charles Rollins Tucker, 1868-1956.
