Editorial comment for this plate:
DUCKS.
The “still life” picture which embellishes our issue this week is from a negative by Mr. Morton Redmond, an artist and amateur photographer of New York City, The picture was made, Mr. Redmond tells us, with a Steinheil lens (Series II, number 5) on the new “Eagle” orthochromatic plate. The exposure was thirteen seconds with the smallest stop, a good light illuminating the subject from two large south windows. The plate was developed with pyrogallol. For a back ground Mr. Redmond used a sheet of plain white cloth tightly stretched over a frame; and he has been remarkably successful, as all can see, in making an effective photograph of a subject somewhat unusual for the camera.
