English amateur photographer and Linked Ring Brotherhood member John Dudley Johnston (1868-1955) was born in the city of Liverpool where he took this view dating to 1906. The original in our collection is a delicate hand-pulled gravure on cream laid paper. Johnston was twice president of the Royal Photographic Society, an active exponent of pictorial photography and important curator of its collection.
