Taken by Stieglitz in 1894 somewhere in Holland, an alternate title to On the Dykes is A Dutch Waterway. This hand-pulled photogravure with Remarque at lower left featuring a small footbridge leading to a vista of windmills beyond was reproduced as the frontis plate for the December, 1895 issue of The American Amateur Photographer, with Stieglitz himself being an editor of at the time.
