Editorial comment on this plate:
Among the other things which we promised our readers at the beginning of the year, was a series of articles on a photographic trip in the torrid zone, by Maximilian Toch, with photo-gravure illustrations from negatives made by the author. The first of that series we take pleasure in presenting our readers this week with its accompanying full-page illustration, “On the Ocklawaha.” In the interesting article which follows, Mr. Toch tells something of this picturesque river in general, and the photograph we have selected to illustrate it—in particular. As a photograph somewhat out of the usual order, it will have an interest for our readers beside that of illustrating a picturesque region of our country little-known.
