This is a red carbon print of an unidentified woman who is most likely a member of New York Gilded Age Society.
James Lawrence Breese (1854-1934) owned and operated The Carbon Studio, located on the ground floor of his townhouse at 5 West 16th street in New York City in partnership with American photographer Rudolf Eickemeyer Jr. Breese, a member of New York Society himself, specialized in Society portraiture as well as the copying of artwork. The business relationship lasted from sometime late in 1896 to 1899, when Eickemeyer became manager of the Campbell Art Company photographic studio in Manhattan.
