
Star Cloud in the Milky Way was a supplemental collotype plate included with the August, 1895 issue of The Photographic Times. Along with many full-page halftone plates, but appearing later in the issue, (opposite p. 96) it was used to illustrate an extensive article written by Professor Edward Emerson Barnard (1857-1923) of the Lick Observatory in California titled Astronomical Photography. Edward Emerson Barnard was an American astronomer. He was commonly known as E. E. Barnard, and was recognized as a gifted observational astronomer. He is best known for his discovery of the high proper motion of Barnard’s Star in 1916, which is named in his honor.—Wikipedia (2026)
