The subject of this 1906 Italian landscape study is the former Villa Gruber, which dates to the 19th century and is now known as the Hotel Bellevue San Lorenzo. Overlooking Lake Garda, it’s located on the Val di Sogno peninsula in the Malcesine comune on the lake’s eastern shore.
Max Schneid was an active member of the Vienna Photo Club in the first decade of the 20th Century. In 1906, the Photographische Korrespondenz referred to the artist:
“Max Schneid, one of our best amateurs, brought his beautiful card players, which have been reproduced many times and are well known.” (p. 350)
