Editorial comments on this plate:
Some time ago we presented our readers with the portrait of “A Fair Philadelphian,” by Mr. Alvin F. Bradley, of the Gilbert Studios, Philadelphia, and at that time expressed the hope of showing them a further example of Mr. Bradley’s portraiture. It is therefore with especial pleasure that we present our readers this week, with “A Profile,” which is from a negative by the same skillful photographer. What was said of the former portrait is true of this. “Without any straining after effect or pretension whatever, he has given us a well-posed and lighted portrait, and one that is without doubt highly satisfactory to the sitter.” This is, after all, the highest end to be attained in portraiture.
