Photographer Charles Rollins Tucker taught physics at the newly opened Curtis High School on Staten Island, New York at the beginning of the 20th Century. This portrait study of an unknown young woman student from the school wearing a coat and hat was taken in a snowy landscape setting. Although unsigned, the title of the work is signed in graphite on the secondary mount verso: A Curtis HS girl and is consistent with Tucker’s handwriting on other known photographs held by this archive.
