Bleiche | Bleaching Laundered Bed Linens

After laundering, a woman and her helper arrange bed linens on the ground to dry, with the Sun acting as a bleaching, or natural brightening agent.

Albert Gottheil: 1867-1942

From a short biography on the book jacket of the 2019 volume: Gottheil & Sohn in Danzig, we learn Albert Gottheil was a commercial photographer working for his long-time family atelier:

Julius Gottheil created a modern family business in mid-19th century Danzig (Gdańsk) whose growing reputation allowed it to successfully operate for 100 years. The Gottheil family studio produced thousands of photographs on all themes, genres and approaches; from art photography to purely commercial pictures.

Julius Gottheil was baptized into the Lutheran faith in 1831, and his subsequent wedding to Helena Matylda Borowski started a fascinating story of a family who disappeared in unknown circumstances during World War I.   ⎯ Jerzy W. Wołodźko
