Editorial comment on this plate:
The excellent example of portraiture which embellishes this issue of The Photographic Times is from a negative by Alvin F. Bradley, of the Gilbert Studios, in Philadelphia. “In my opinion,” writes Mr. Bradley, “a proper appreciation of the lighting of the subject, with a nicety of timing, is of more importance than either a special brand of plate or a specified formula.” In his picture Mr. Bradley certainly shows that his opinion is a good one, for, without any straining after-effect or pretension whatever, he has given us a well-posed and lighted portrait, and one that is without doubt highly satisfactory to the sitter. We shall be glad to give our readers another example of Mr. Bradley’s portrait work.
