Newborn Dorothy Tucker, born in August of 1899 on New York’s Staten Island, is held by her mother, Mary (Carruthers) Tucker. (1870-1940) She was a constant photographic subject for her father, a high school physics teacher at Curtis High School on the island who trained his camera on Dorothy from birth to late teens. As a cyanotype, this small example was thought well enough to frame behind glass as a family keepsake, lending credibility the process was not just considered a first way of proofing photos but good enough as an example to admire.
