Mullens

Editorial comment on this plate:

Our frontispiece this week is from a negative by the veteran photographer, Henry J. Newton, of New York. “it is a study of mullens by the roadside, and only three hundred feet from my country residence (at Nyack),” writes Mr. Newton. “These roadside pictures are everywhere in the country, but are unnoticed except by those who have some artistic education.” Certainly no one would accuse Mr. Newton of being devoid of an artistic insight. He has a keen eye to discover, and a skilled judgment to depict the beautiful in nature. The present picture is no exception, it is a simple subject faithfully rendered.
