Take a Kodak with You

Take a Kodak with You

Pipe and horse shoeing hammer in hand, a farrier sits on a sawhorse outside his stable waiting for his photo to be taken. The scene has been set in this Kodak advertising photograph for a well-to-do woman taking aim with her Kodak camera. Meanwhile, her chauffeur or perhaps spouse waits and looks on from behind their automobile- the means for her to get out and explore the world, Kodak camera in hand.

This rare surviving photograph was used in the Kodak print advertising campaign: “Take a KODAK with you”. It appeared as a color illustration and also monochrome. An example of a black & white version of the ad was used in the May, 1916 issue of Travel magazine.

Photographs often taken by amateur photographers were entered into Kodak advertising photo contests like this original example from 1908. Kodak also employed their own photographers for advertising campaigns.
