Growing up, I never had a dog, but for the last ten years or so, I’ve been lucky to know and love a few, thanks to my wife’s insistence they are necessary for a harmonious marriage.  Very early attempts by photographers wishing to capture Man’s best friend on metal and glass surely resulted in blurring and in many cases, nothing at all due to the inherent movement in certain breeds. This is a fine example of a hound by German photographer Otto Scharf done sometime in the late 1890’s, with the circular frame distinguishing an already elegant likeness.
