When the Mists have Rolled Away

When the Mists have Rolled Away

This pleasing scenic features a cornfield set against a tree-line at right background. Fog and mountains rise beyond and is believed to have been taken in Vermont: possibly a view of the 125 acre Tucker family farm in Randolph, VT, which C.R. Tucker and his wife Mary Carruthers Tucker purchased before 1920. The title of this photograph: When the Mists have Rolled Away, written on the print verso, most likely refers to the 1874 composition of the same name by composer James Gowdy Clark. Due to the damaging effects of the 1938 hurricane on Vermont, his own retirement from public teaching around 1939, and the passing of his wife in 1940, Tucker sold the farm in the early 1940’s.

Charles Rollins Tucker, 1868-1956.
